“With all the books in this series please be careful as you will hanker after good food, good wine, and possibly a cigar to wind your meal up with.”

"Here we have the latest English translation in this series, which sees our intrepid wine connoisseur and his assistant investigating a new case. Benjamin Cooker is in Paris when he pops in on an old friend, only to find a masked man running away from his friend’s shop, leaving the owner seriously injured.

As Cooker and his assistant, Virgile carry on their business affairs Cooker wants to find out what happened to his friend. Can a motive and suspect be found, or was it an unprovoked attack? Taking us back into the past and the reasons that many join the French Foreign Legion, this isn’t something that can be solved by the reader until the end, so don’t expect a whodunit that you know the answer to before you are halfway through.

This made for an enjoyable read, although I should warn you that by the end of this you will see that this is quite a sad story, one that you may be able to relate to if you have had anything traumatic happen in your past. Of course with all the books in this series please be careful as you will hanker after good food, good wine, and possibly a cigar to wind your meal up with.” —4-star reader review
